Eucheuma Spinosum

Eucheuma Spinosum is one of the most commonly cultivated seaweed species by our coastal farming communities. It is prized for its versatility and is primarily used in the production of carrageenan, a key ingredient in food products, cosmetics, and pharmaceuticals. This species thrives in the warm, nutrient-rich waters surrounding Zanzibar, making it a reliable and sustainable choice for local farmers.

Eucheuma Cottonii

Similar to Eucheuma Spinosum, Eucheuma Cottonii is also widely farmed by our dedicated seaweed farmers. It is known for its high carrageenan yield and is in high demand in global markets. The cultivation of this species not only provides a sustainable livelihood for farmers but also contributes significantly to Zanzibar’s blue economy.

Ulva Lactuca

Ulva Lactuca is a green seaweed collected seasonally from Zanzibar’s beaches. Often referred to as "sea lettuce," this species is valued for its nutritional content and applications in food, agriculture, and bioplastics. While its availability is more limited, it adds an important dimension to our seaweed offerings.
